Automated Metros Observatory

This report offers a general overview of the state of the art in metro automation, covering line characteristics, technological trends, supplier market share and estimated future evolution.

Some key facts contained in this report: in 2016 there are 803 km of automated metro in operation, in 55 lines that together serve 848 stations in 37 cities. Close to a quarter of the world’s metro cities have at least one line operated in full automated mode. By 2025, automated metro lines are expected to total over 2,300 km.

The Annual World Report is produced by the Observatory of Automated Metros, based on information obtained from the industry press and/or directly from the operators and authorities who manage fully automated lines.
